Before we talk about the Office 2019 System Requirements, let me first clarify what you get with this release.

Office for Android™ (including Outlook for Android) can be installed on tablets and phones running any of the supported versions of Android and have an ARM-based or Intel x86 processor. Starting on July 1, 2019, support will be limited to only the last four major versions of Android. Windows Server 2019, or Windows 10 LTSC 2019. This release of Office 2019 is ideal for disconnected PCs and Laptops which are not connected to the internet or are installed in a corporate environment.

On the server side, we expect Microsoft to release the following:

  • Exchange Server 2019
  • SharePoint Server 2019
  • Project Server 2019 with SharePoint 2019 as a prerequisite
  • Skype for Business Server

Office 2019 System Requirements

At the time of writing this post, we do not have much information on specific details. So, we will keep this post as a placeholder, before we get concrete official information on the Microsoft Website.

What we heard is that neither Windows 7 or 8.1 are supported. The rumor is that Office 2019 will only be expected to run on Windows 10. The following Windows 10 editions are expected to run Office 2019.

  • Any supported Windows 10 SAC (Windows as a Service) release
  • Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC (Long-Term Servicing Channel) 2018
  • The next LTSC release of Windows Server 2019

Will Office 2019 Run On Windows 7

I don't see how this pushes anyone to upgrade. There really isn't any need to 'buckle in'. Users are always free to keep using Windows XP (wat), Windows 7, Windows whatever and any version of office released while in mainstream support. Office 2010, 2013, and Office 2016 work great. Windows 7 works fine. Windows 8 works fine. Windows 10 works fine. Each OS version, just like the competition, have flaws or annoyances. Always have, always will. No need to sit around and whine - if you don't like the OS you use feel free to write your own and see how it goes.
Microsoft is designing Office 2019 to work with Windows 10 instead a gimped version that is unstable or missing features in older outdated OS releases. It is really simple.
